Hacking Through Modern Learning

Did you miss Daphne McMenemy’s keynote at BYTE2021 last month? Daphne explores the world of coding in the classroom as her students become thinkers, innovators, problem solvers, and creators, all while developing a growth mindset.

The Team Continues to Grow

This past month we signed Christine Ravesi-Weinstein and Ian Landy to the Code Breaker leadership team. Look for their upcoming books projects later this year! In the meantime, check out our library of books from our incredible authors at codebreakeredu.com/books.

On the Editor’s Desk…

Up next on the Editor’s desk is Andrew J. Canlé’s Mindset Moments. Andrew gets readers thinking about how educators can adjust their perspective in order to cultivate a positive mindset amid the challenges and demands of the profession. What if there was a way to recalibrate our thinking to endure any challenge? What if despite the circumstance we could be at our best for ourselves, our colleagues and students?

Mindset Moments will have educators feeling more readily able to face any obstacle that the educational stratosphere presents, and in turn be at their best to collaborate with colleagues and deliver a quality educational experience for their learners. Stay tuned to our socials for a release date.

New Addition to the Bookshelf

Lori Koerner defines leadership as the choices we make, the relationships we establish, and the influence we have on those we serve. She reminds readers that not only does a leader empower and encourage, they also listen actively and make certain that every member of the organization feels heard and valued.

Inspiration and empowerment work in conjunction to propel our intrinsic motivation which is at the center of what fuels our soul. Empowering others has to do with the power of yet and shifting mindsets from, I can’t to I can and I will. Inspiration and empowerment require encouragement and positivity.  Lori Koerner is a great new voice bringing insight, experience and humility to a much needed genre that requires the brightest of lights to be shined on it – women in leadership. Actually, I Can is engaging, relatable and full of practical wisdom and personal stories that both women and men can learn from. To live a life filled with one’s highest choices and brightest outcomes, one should always continue to inspire and empower – and in turn – become inspired and empowered. This book is the ultimate guide in doing so.

The Leadership Lounge

Our Code Breaker Leadership Lounge welcomes leaders in education from around the globe to collaborate, expand connections and grow their PLN.

Our weekly meetings – held Fridays at 10amEST – are a space for leaders to laugh, share, learn, vent, and connect with other leaders around all things education. Each week, our host, Matthew X. Joseph, poses a challenges that get all members thinking about what it means to lead. Here is last week’s challenge…A man takes his car to a hotel. Upon reaching the hotel, he is immediately declared bankrupt. Why? Tweet us your thoughts at #CodeBreaker.

Checking In With Osage Community Schools

If you want a firsthand look at how big of an impact coding classes make, check out this visit to Iowa’s Osage Community School District.

In 2017, NewBoCo partnered with Osage and our own Barb Schwamman to bring Code.org curriculum into classrooms of all grade levels. The result? Everything from an e-sports team, to students finding a whole new purpose.
