Matthew J. Bowerman

Heart Leadership is living out the mission of love, compassionately guiding our students’ academic and social-emotional wellness, driven by the belief that kids come first everyday, and from the moment they show up it’s all about authentic relationships, all about authentic love.

Matthew J. Bowerman has served in education for over twenty three years, teaching in middle and high school as a Theatre, Special Education, English, and Reading teacher. He had held numerous school leadership roles, and has also taught Theatre at the college level. As a professional actor/singer/dancer and director, Matthew has performed both nationally and internationally. He is the recipient of an EMMY Award, as well as a CINE Golden Eagle Film Award for Writing/Directing the educational short, “BusSTOP,” addressing the bullying crisis in the United States; he is also a Maryland Gifted and Talented Leadership Awardee and PTSA Lifetime Award recipient. He holds a Bachelors in Theatre from Towson University, a Masters in Teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland University, as well as a Masters in Educational Leadership from the same school; he is currently preparing to begin his Doctoral work. In addition, Matthew is also the Family Liaison Chair, and a writer for the Say Their Names Memorial. Matthew is deeply invested in the work of love-leading students and their families in his current role as a School Administrator in Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. He is currently working on his upcoming book, HeartLeader.
